One of my favourite things about my neighbourhood in LA was all the different kinds of flowers that I saw each day. There are so many different kinds and so many different colours (10 different shades of pink, 10 different shades of purple etc) that I sometimes felt like I was walking through an enchanted garden.

It's pretty easy to stop and smell the roses when you are surrounded by them.

PS: WHO IS SICK OF SEEING THIS SKORT IN THE BLOG WORLD? It's just too perfect though.

COAST TO COAST: Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.

After driving 4000 miles, touring 10 states and living like a gypsy for over 9 nights, I am finally HOME!!! It was an experience of a lifetime without a doubt and the things I saw will forever be ingrained in my mind but I have to say...seeing the "Welcome to Canada" sign felt pretty amazing.

The last bit of our road trip consisted of us driving from Texas to Oklahoma- where we stayed two nights then onward to Chicago. The drive from Oklahoma to Chicago took a cool 11 hours and then from Chicago to Canada another 9. We of course unpacked in Chicago for a few days and face dived into some legit deep dish pizza as a reward for completing the longest leg of the trip. Duh.

Here are some things I learned from this trip:

-Yelling/Rapping "Bitch, don't kill my vibe" if a car infront of us was going painfully slow actually helps with the rage.

-If you start counting the IHOPS and Waffle Houses that you pass, you would be insanely alarmed.

-Chicago felt like a mix of New York and Toronto and is beyond clean (it was my first time there!). Only downfall is that Josh Hartnett does not wander around Wicker Park. UGH!

-You have a lot of time to think...mainly throughout the entire state of Oklahoma and Missouri.

-An old school map > Iphone GPS at times.
 photo IMG_0985-1.jpg

-It's completely normal to get out of the car and have NO idea where you were. Shamrock? Cuba? Lebanon? We learned these are ACTUAL names of cities in the USA. Copycats.

-People in Middle America love God.

-Sending postcards to friends and family from where you are is so fun...even if they don't get it for a week after you get home.

-Diesel gas is not like regular gas and can very much mess up your car. Thanks random trucker for saving my life.

-There is no gluten free or Kale in between the states of Texas to Chicago. This cannot be confirmed but I'm going to go ahead and just assume.

-Utah's red rock route was my absolute favourite part of the drive.
 photo IMG_1318.jpg

-As we drove through Oklahoma, we quickly realized that the movie Twister was without a doubt filmed there. The drive consisted of high winds, big hail chunks and little mini "dust bunnies" (look like mini tornados but are not). It was scary as hell especially with an army of big trucks sandwiching us! I can only imagine the devastation going on there right now as I have witnessed how scary a regular storm is.

All in all, it felt so liberating being on the open road. We got to listen to some great jams and were not constricted or tied down once. Our hair was a mess...always and we didn't have a care in the world. It was all of the little things on this trip that made it so memorable- taking that wrong turn and ending up at a cool diner,  catching a pink sky after an hour of light rain or buying ridiculous souvenirs from random shops.

The journey was truly just as important as the destination.

Kale Edamame Salad

For anyone that knows me, knows that I love me some good solid Kale. I AM SO TRENDY!

No seriously, I did hop on the bandwagon with little to zero expectations and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved it- in all forms- even in it's darkest hour (raw).

This is an EASY salad to toss together, especially great for lunches.

What you need for the Salad:

Cup of Edamame
2 Bunches of Kale
A few Baby Tomatoes
Handful of Sweetened Dried Cranberries
Handful of Almonds
Handful of Scallions

What you need for the Dressing:

1 tsbp of Agave
1 tbsp of Olive Oil
1 tbsp of Balsamnic
One squeeze of a lemon

Mix all this together and voila!

After Santa Fe, we started to head east towards Texas and Oklahoma. I have been DYING to go to Texas and was slightly bummed that I couldn't road trip down to Austin and Marfa (too out of the way and not enough time) but nonetheless I was excited to see this state...even if it was for a hot minute!

We knew we were well into Texas when we started to see churches, anti abortion billboards, firework warehouses, and lunch portions big enough to feed a family of 3. We stopped in Amarillo to see the infamous Cadallic Ranch art installation and had some fun spray painting the cars. Sometimes I'm 28, most of the time I am 21 which is why I OBVIOUSLY had to spray paint Tim Riggins name in a heart (FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS FOREVER). If you didn't watch the show...disregard this completely!

Although our time was short and sweet, I will be back Texas!

COAST TO COAST: Santa Fe, New Mexico

New Mexico smelt like cowboy leather and mexican food and was decked out in everything Pendleton. The combination of those 3 things made me really like the place. New Mexico itself is also called "The Land of Enchantment" and after finding an amazing Kale salad at a restaurant...I knew it was true.

We drove from Page, Arizona to Santa Fe, New Mexico which took about 7 and a half hours and oddly enough, felt like a quick drive. It was such a strange feeling coming into "civilization" after almost 3 days of being in complete isolation with nature. We stepped out of the car and into this little town and definitely stood out like sore thumbs.

We were greeted with "Well you guys aren't from here, now are ya?" and "Y'all are city girls...which city?". Everyone was so warm and inviting and each person wanted to make sure we enjoyed their small, charming, little city. That we did!

So if I ever need to hide out from the world, I will come to Lake Powell.
We left Bryce Canyon and headed east towards Lake Powell- a mystical place that sits on the border of Utah and Arizona. Who says you can't be in two places at once!?

It did a lot of things for us but mainly it turned our road trip into a HoliDAZEEE. We were rubbing our eyes in disbelief at some of the beautiful sites we got to witness along the border here.

Some of the fun things we got into: stumbling upon the most INSANE beach by fluke ( we were among the only people there) and changed at the side of the rode into our bathing suits so we could tan (so road-trippy!), crashing and touring the Amanrigi Resort which is basically the nicest place I have ever laid eyes on (we saw 4 random celebrities in the first 5 minutes of being there- we know where you hide out now!) and a nature hike to a look out point that is Pinterest worthy.
